I had ruptured disc that was tapping a nerve in my spine. It wasn't constant but I was in pain most of the time. I could only sit in a cloth directors chair for about 30 minutes at a time. I could only lay on the floor, I could hardly do anything because of the pain. Dr. Vardiman performed a microdiscectomy. The operation was about 25 minutes, I awoke pain free. I live in the country,I woke up that first night at 3.00 and felt so good that I had to walk. My mailbox is a half mile from my house. I walked there and back and felt so good I made breakfast and didn't go back to bed. It's been 3 years now and I have not felt any back pain. I walk every morning since my operation as Dr. Vardiman instructed. Dr. Vardiman also operated on my wife, who couldn't walk at the time. After his operation she was up and walking. Dr. Vardiman is gifted and I recommend him for any spinal problems.

Buyer beware. At first I thought finally a doctor who cares, but then reality. I had terrible life after spinal surgery and Dr Vardiman stated they did perfect surgery and asked why we were there, basically told to leave. After finding another Neurosurgeon and Neurologist they showed me what was wrong from a MRI that Dr Vardiman had me do, a year before. They were astonished that he did nothing. Thank God for this Neurosurgeon and Neurologist

Did MRI’s of the Cervical, Thoracic, and Lumbar spine, said all was good, nothing wrong with the back. Got another opinion after a few weeks, and had a 5 hour, 3 level lumbar fusion surgery!

Outstanding
Between his bedside manner, all follow-up visits, and office staff, I am always comfortable. In 2009, I needed a Neurosurgeon FAST My Primary Physician had discovered a large tumor on my brain. She referred me to Dr. Vardiman, and 2 days later I was in his care, Surgery was successfully done, results carefully explained, as were the surgical options. Many MRIs since then, carefully discussed, reviewed, and answered all questions that my husband or I have. And here I am to write about it.

Miracle Worker
I have been in major pain due to back injury (3 ruptured disk, a vertebrae fracture and advanced stenosis) for many years. Unable to stand up straight and only able to walk using a walker or a cane (very short distance with a cane). The injuries happened over a number of years and misdiagnosed for at least 6 years. I was finally told surgery was the only thing to improve my situation and delaying further would eventually put me in a wheelchair for the rest of my life. That news was given more than 2 years ago and I was 73 years old at the time. It took 18 months to get cleared for surgery and things got to moving fast once I was cleared. Dr Varniman made it clear he had no idea what my level of improvement might be but said he wouldn't recommend going forward if there wouldn't be an improvement. I'm now a little more than 6-weeks post surgery. The improvement is amazing. I was counseled yesterday to let my body heal, do not overdue and ruin what was fixed. I will obey.

He is the best neurosurgeon I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen many. I’ve lived in Houston, Dallas and San Antonio and he is the most knowledgeable and personable neurosurgeon I’ve ever seen. He didn’t push anything on me and he said no to surgery which was good news. All other doctors pushed surgery. He laughed and said no. He is down to earth, friendly and so easy gloms. He listens to his patients.. I am so very impressed. He will continue to monitor me for the rest of my life. He’s too good not to see.

I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Vardiman and his staff! Dr Vardimans office jumped through hoops to get my surgery approved, and his assistant Maria was wonderful during the entire process! Dr Vardiman actually performed the surgery at a hospital he never works with, due to my provider, and the surgery remained on schedule! The doctors office was extremely professional, and corteous, throughout the entire process, and I woukd highly recommend him to anyone!

Dr. Vardiman has to be one of the top neurosurgeons in South Central Texas. He explains everything about your surgery. My back was a mess and he fixed it when other doctors did not want to touch it. His staff is totally professional and respectful. I would send any of my family or friends to him for repairs. He is a wonderful, caring doctor. I would rate him 6 stars!

Wouldn't waste your time seeing this neurosurgeon. He seems to be more interested in his current parkinson implants. If you have a brain tumor good luck on getting any answers. Vardiman may be on the leading edge of research and implants for parkinson disease but lacks compassion for patients with brain tumors.

Dr V is a very caring person. After my surgery, he took the time to leave surgery at 7:00 PM to come talk to me about what to expect and do in rehab. I complied and got excellent results. Simply put, Dr V is the very best.

Dr. V is amazing! I had a spinal fusion at L5-S1. I was up and walking pain free almost immediately after surgery. Of course I had surgical pain bc it was a major surgery but my weakness, numbness and back pain were gone! He's a God send and repaired my spine. I am entirely grateful for this doc!
