Dr. Ara Karamanian, MD

Super rude. Kept talking and would not hear my concerns. His decisions felt rushed and I did not trust him one bit.

Had FLA with Dr. Karamanian for Gleason 3+4 confined to the prostate. Throughout the process I was impressed with his knowledge, communication, and skill. He did a remarkable job of removing the lesion area and also generous margins around it. It's a long procedure, and I appreciated that he took the time to ensure he removed the lesion and margins. 1/3 of the prostate was removed, yet I experienced no negative side effects. The 6-month follow-up (MRI plus I also did PSMA-PET at my discretion) shows no cancer, and 0.65 PSA. FLA is unknown to many MD's. My Urologist and PCP had not heard of it. I'm not impressed with my Urologist, so no surprise there. My excellent PCP was curious and looked into it later. He thought it would be an excellent choice for treatment.

Just had my 1 year testing after my FLA procedure on August 11th 2022,PSA is at 1.16 and my MRI is still looking good , can't tell you how much I appreciate Dr.K ,Dr Harmon,Donnie, and the rest of the staff,I was diagnosed with a number 7 , my Ohio doctor suggested complete removal of the prostate, thank God we found The Prostate laser center, highly recommend them,thanks again to all of the staff, I couldn't believe how they took as much time as you wanted to explain everything and totally made you feel comfortable, Juliana has also been very helpful, y'all are the best.

It is an amazing feeling. The physical side was painless, there have been no side effects and the mental relief is phenomenal ! The process was quick and painless…Wow! The experience with the Prostate Laser Center was fabulous. After all the historical information was submitted, the most difficult part was waiting to find out if I was a good candidate. Dr. Harman was wonderful: patient, understanding, helpful and without a doubt, thorough, meticulous, empathetic and superb in his specialty. Donnie Sartin was a great complement to the entire experience with the same great traits. They both made me feel comfortable in describing and understanding the process, before, during and after. Dr K. Preformed Laser Ablation Surgery on me in 2018. He was the most personable Doctor I have ever had. The surgery was a success with no side effects. I am still cancer free after 5 years.

Dr. Karamanian examined me with the advanced MRI and because I had two failed operations for blocking BPH, the doc was very frank about my risks and had concern that I had some unusual findings such as a high riding urethral bladder connection and bladder inflammation. He was realistic about the modest chances for success because I had a FLA at another place which made things worse. Yet Dr. K continued to follow-up with me and had several virtual appointments answering my questions and giving me insights. I will be forever grateful and look forward to referring many to him.

My husband (now age 82) was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2019 and was on active suveillance until Nov. 2021 when he had FLA with Dr. Ara Karamanian in Houston. In my husband's case, FLA represented the best choice for addressing both his enlarged prostate and the cancer in one procedure. FLA was also seemingly the best choice for him given that his lesion was very close to the neurovascular bundle. The deciding factor for us though was Dr. Karamanian, his nurse Donnie, and the clinic staff. From the first conversation we had with Dr Karamanian, it was clear that he was the right choice. He spent as much time with us as we needed, he explained the procedure and potential side effects clearly, and his confidence was immensely reassuring. He's the real deal.

I was treated with Focal Laser Ablation by Dr. Karamanian in October of 2020 for Prostate cancer. At the time of my treatment, my PSA was 16. A year after the treatment, my PSA was 1.5. After some recovery time, there are no residual side effects from the treatment. I am pleased that this form of treatment leaves the door open for further treatment should it ever become necessary, unlike radiation or surgery. Dr. Karamanian is a highly skilled physician offering a state of the art treatment for a disease that affects many men. My wife and I are so grateful that we did the research and found the Prostate Laser Center and Dr. Karamanian. I recommend Dr. K to any man facing a Prostate cancer diagnosis.

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in mid 2013. During my research, I found information about a relatively new treatment called FLA and began researching the practitioners, one of which was Dr. Ara Karamanian in Houston, TX. After discussing my case with numerous urologists, radiologists and oncologists in 3 different states over 2+ years, I decided on "Dr K" and feel very fortunate that I found him. I was treated by "Dr K" by FLA of the prostate in Dec 2017 after communicating with him for over a year prior and for the 5+ years since. I have found him to be one of the most caring and compassionate physicians I have met. He always gave me whatever time and information I needed pre and post treatment and actual listens to my concerns and desires. He tells you like it is - he doesn't sugar coat it - BUT, he knows how to put you at ease and give you the information needed to make your decision. If only all physicians were as understanding.

My urologist diagnosed prostate cancer and recommended that I have my prostate surgically removed. I instead had Focal Laser Ablation with Dr. Karamanian in September, 2020. MRIs post FLA have shown no evidence of cancer, and my PSAs have been under 1.0. I have had zero side effects, and I am delighted with the results.

I had the FLA procedure almost a year ago and the results have been good so far. Dr. Karamanian, his nurse Donnie and the office staff were all very considerate, responsive and helpful. If this treatment is right for you I would definitely recommend Dr. Karamanian.

Hello. My name is Stephen. I am 67 years old. I would like to tell the world about my overwhelming experience with Dr. Karamanian, the Prostate Laser Center, and his entire staff in Houston Tx. 2 years ago I was diagnosed a Gleason 6/7 prostate cancer. After being told by my Urologist in R.I. that I had only two choice for treatment ( removal, and radiation) I remembered a article I read that my uncle gave to me. It stated about a new laser to remove tumors in men with my disease. Dr. Karamanian stood out as the best in the field . ( as I read in letters from his peers) Dr. Karamanian called me back, and politely explained the procedure and the many questions I asked. I flew to Houston. had a MRI done so he and I could see more clearly the extent of my disease. He performed the surgery and successfully removed the cancer lesions. I flew back to R.I. the next day. After a couple of months I was clearly on my way to normalcy. I am prostate cancer free! Thanks to Dr. Karamanian

Dr. K is a most attentive & responsive FLA doctor. He always called me back promptly. Dr. K’s assistant, Donnie S, was also great to have caring for me. Both replied thoroughly & articulately & took the time needed to fully address any questions or concerns. My perception of, and ultimately experience with, Dr. K and Mr. Sartin were very positive. Adjectives that come to mind are: real, genuine, caring, responsive, knowledgeable, skilled, intelligent, experienced, receptive, thorough. I had occasion to run into a couple of other men who had FLA performed by Dr. K. Both of them had nothing but positive things to say, including the most important, no residual or recurrent cancer as of the time I spoke with them. At 6 months, my PSA was 0.3 and my 3TMRI, reviewed by two radiologists, including Dr. K, both stated there was no residual or recurrent cancer. I am feeling blessed & pleased with the success to-date & would most certainly highly recommend Dr. K to anyone seeking FLA. God Bless

I had prostate laser for cancer and enlarged prostate. I'm now 6 months post and I am beyond happy with the whole process! Dr. Karamanian, Donnie, Alex, and Julianna, are the best!

After much research, I went to Dr. Karamanian for bph prostate laser ablation on May 5, 2020. I had median lobe bph that was protruding into my bladder and slowly causing damage to the bladder. My prostate was 77 cc prior to the procedure. The procedure went very smoothly without pain and Dr. Karamanian successfully ablated about half of my prostate while staying away from all important nerves. Three months later I am only getting up once per night to urinate (sometimes not at all) and my volume has dramatically increased. Everything is working properly. My quality of life has dramatically improved. Dr. Karamanian and his staff are tremendous and I would highly recommend them for prostate issues. He is truly a very caring, skilled and dedicated doctor and his nurse Donny went beyond the call of duty to help me with some catheter issues after the procedure. I would recommend changing to a standard smaller Foley catheter right after the procedure if at all possible.

My urologist said I had only two options, both with significant possible side effects. Dr. Karamanian provided a third possibly, one with a short recovery time and minimal side effects. My 6 month follow up MRI finds no cancer. My PSA is .6.

FLA done August 2019. Very pleased with procedure and outcome. If you are a candidate for FLA you will not go wrong with Dr. Karamanian. Highly recommend.

I underwent prostate laser ablation for prostate cancer by Dr Karamanian on 6/10/19. I was very impressed with his initial evaluation of my case and his concern for me to make the best decision for myself. The pre procedure process, laser ablation procedure and post procedure care were all done with the patient their primary concern. The procedure was without significant pain or discomfort. As a Physician I am very impressed with the care and concern for his patients and the quality of his work. My follow up MR prostate study on1/9/20 showed no evidence of tumor. for low to intermediate prostate cancer Focal Laser Ablation should at least be considered with consultation with Dr Karamanian
