Unprofessional, aggressive, condescending
She illicits pain intentionally. Strangely focuses on it as an indicator of successful delivery progress. She is an outlier in the NW system. Stay away from her.

Highly recommend
She is an upfront, smart, seasoned, no nonsense doctor who I have trusted for over 20 years. I can have honest, vulnerable conversations with her and trust that she will always give me the best medical and personal advice there is.

I went in for a typical ob-gyn visit during my pregnancy. It was my first time assigned to Dr Ann Starr, and beforehand, the nurse had informed me that as routine practice for this visit, I would be swabbed for culture in my vag and butt. Dr Starr asked me a question, and in the middle of my answer, out of nowhere she swabbed me aggressively — to my complete surprise. I thought she would have begun after I had finished answering. When I yelped in surprise and pain, she said, "Well, how do you think birth is going to be?" Now, I understand that doctors sometimes need to distract patients during painful procedures. But a swab is not typically a painful procedure, it's not even as invasive as a pap. It was her approach to "surprise" me, aggressive handling, and attempt at shaming me when I expressed my surprise and discomfort, that made a routine procedure much worse. Beyond her bedside manner, she lacked empathy and showed a lack of professional conduct.

Why? – Nov 09, 2021
×Post a ResponseAre you Dr. Starr?
After having 3 pregnancies with this office, I have been unable to make an appointment for a regular check up for two years now. I am told every time I call that not only is Dr. Starr unavailable and has zero appointments on her calendar, but that no doctor in the entire practice has any appointment available for the foreseeable future. I am then instructed every time I call, to try again the following week, to no avail, as I continue to be given the same story that no appointments are available. I'm not sure why I'm being treated this way, but it's unacceptable to tell a patient that they cannot be seen by the practice and to keep trying to call back. I requested to speak with a nurse today and of course no one called me back. I give up. I guess they only care for pregnant women here.

Frustrated customer – May 28, 2021

I interacted with Dr. Starr twice during my pregnancy. Both times, she was extremely unprofessional and had terrible bedside manner that made me feel like she didn't care about me as a patient or my baby. The first time I interacted with her, I was bleeding and 6 weeks pregnant- I was terrified that I was having a miscarriage. Without asking about my symptoms or showing any empathy, she responded bluntly, "You're probably having a miscarriage. Call our office back on Monday." The second time I interacted with her was in the hospital the day after I gave birth. She came to do my final examination before I was discharged from the hospital. During that exam, she barked at me to stop asking questions and taking notes while she was talking. I started to cry but she ignored me and kept talking. She was the only unprofessional staff member who I encountered during my time at Prentice. No other women should be subjected to her unprofessional, rude behavior.

I've been a patient of Dr. Starr for 20 some years. She's helped me through infertility issues, three pregnancies, miscarriage and a pregnancy of a child with serious medical issues. I've always received top notch care and she went above and beyond when our child with issues was born.
