I thought she was very cold in her delivery of the information. I asked a question and she sounded impatient answering my question. Like, "weren't you listening type of reply". I was rather shocked at her diagnosis so I had a hard time processing the information she gave me. I would NOT recommend her. She might be good at surgery (I won't know that) but her bedside manner is poor.

We were referred to Dr. Martinek by another ophthalmologist. Dr. Martinek explained the procedure my family member needed, in a very robotic and cold manner. We scheduled the suggested procedure for the following week. Long story short, my relative did not have Dr. Martinek do the procedure. Prior to starting, we asked the doctor a few questions. Her answers were rude and insulting, at best. At one point, she turned to me and asked, “Do you understand what I am saying?” Usually this question would be seen as an excellent way to check a patient’s understanding of the pending procedure. However, her tone was beyond degrading and demoralizing. There was a definite implication, by Dr. Martinek, that I wasn’t intelligent enough to process her words. At that point, we excused ourselves, and did not continue with the appointment. In my humble opinion, she needs to be in an occupation that does not involve helping people. Maybe a research lab would fit her skill set more appropriately.

I've had a lifelong history of cataracts and retinal detachment having lost vision in my right eye as a teenager. In 2000, having moved to the Dayton area, I was referred to Dr. Martinek with a detached retina in my left eye. It took two surgeries - Dr. Martinek saved my vision in my remaining sighted (left) eye. I return to her for check ups and cannot recommend her highly enough.

Dr. Martinek is an amazing retinal specialist. She single handedly saved my husband's vision. She has went above and beyond for him. She answers every question, no matter how small, and she never makes you feel stupid or judged for your past. She is focused on the NOW, and future action to save your vision. I honestly can say—without a shadow of a doubt—she is the best, most caring, and most determined doctor I have ever had the privilege of working with in my life. Thank you Dr Martinek.
