Laughing during horrible IUD insertion
Dr. Jokela placed my IUD a few years ago. I was given no medication and it took her 6 tries to insert the device. She attempted to jam it in each time and laughed about how difficult it was while I was clearly in severe pain. I have had many complications since and I think it may have been due to this insertion process. Laughing was a cruel and insensitive thing to do. My first IUD insertion at a different institution years ago did not cause such a issue- so I do not think this was a result of unique cervix positioning. Do not have a medical procedure like this done by this physician. She is a great doctor in all other aspects- but I would warn women against having any procedure like this done by her.

I have had several appointments with Dr. Jokela and felt respected, listened to, and safe. She gave me a lot of time to talk, and I felt that she actually cared, which I had not found with my last PCP. She is kind, intelligent, and helpful. She gave me good health advice and made me feel comfortable.
