Dr. Angelish Kumar, MD

Dr. Kumar was the umpteenth specialist my daughter has seen over the past several years. Daughter had a myriad of symptoms - some which mimicked UTIs (mostly negative) and other symptoms that seemed unrelated (though they occurred simultaneously). My daughter was either dismissed or tests were run that came back negative - end of story with each specialist. Dr. Kumar did not give up and at one point looked her in the eye and said 'I believe you'. I almost cried, after so much dismissal. After a few visits and one procedure, Dr. Kumar said that she felt that my daughter might have endometriosis (which, granted, is very difficult to diagnose). She referred us to Dr. Yaniv Larish, a surgeon who specializes in minimally invasive, robotic endo treatment (his excellent review is coming next). It turns out that my daughter - at the age of 23 - had rampant endometriosis. They changed her life and likely preserved her fertility. The recovery has not been easy, but my gratitude is endless.

Dr. Kumar is kind and thorough and listens to her patients.

Dr. Kumar is 1) highly competent and highly qualified, 2) takes as much time as needed to discuss problems and answer questions, 3) very gentle, as she deals with sensitive areas, 4) very knowledgeable.I recommend her highly and would mention that she is particularly helpful for women who have seen other urologists or urogynecologists and have not found solutions for their issues, or who have ongoing issues.

Dr. Kumar was able to help me when no other doctor could! After a UTI I was left with irritative bladder symptoms (burning with urination and after) that were incredibly painful and impacting my quality of life. While other urologists were willing to brush my symptoms off the table and slap on an IC "diagnosis" as a bandaid after negative urine cultures, Dr. Kumar was ready to confront this issue head on. I have had a cystoscopy by Dr. Kumar as well as 5 bladder instillations to help with bladder inflammation following my UTI. These scary sounding procedures were actually not bad at all with Dr. Kumar and I felt safe and comfortable the whole time. Dr. Kumar is a great problem solver, always happy to answer questions, calls you back promptly, has great bedside manner, and never rushes appointments. I feel so grateful to Dr. Kumar and the entire Women's Urology NYC team.

I have suffered from recurring UTI for 11 years, all previous Urologists were not empathetic, rushed me and looked at my issue with no interest. Going through this ordeal has affected my whole life and finally I have hope. Dr Kumar spent a lot of time with me, carefully listening to my story and asking questions. She put a plan together and offered options as back ups. She understands that feeding all sorts of antibiotics is not the solution. Thank you Doctor for giving me hope. My husband came along as I need his support managing through this nightmare. He was also very impressed and learnt a lot.

My 23 yo daughter felt an urgency to pee all the time beginning a couple of months ago. She went to 4 doctors who didn't treat her correctly and/or chalked it up to her anxiety. She finally got to Dr. Kumar who took her seriously and immediately began working thoughtfully on the problem. Because Dr. Kumar did not see an obvious physical reason for the problem, she mentioned a couple of times to watch for neurological symptoms such as tingling. My daughter worried about this so Dr. Kumar ordered an MRI of the brain and spine to rule out MS or other neuro issues. The MRI came back and showed that my daughter has a brain tumor. She will have it removed and hopefully make a full recover. It is not clear whether the urgency issue is related to the tumor, but in either case, Dr. Kumar may have saved my daughter's life because of her medical and soft skills. She listened to her patient, believed what she said, took her mental health seriously, and trusted her own instincts. She's the best.

She is so smart And eagerly continues to be updated on all the latest information in urology especially for older women. She is thorough and listens very carefully. I couldn’t have a higher recommendation.

Dr. Kumar is an exceptional physician and human being. She is educated, patient, skilled and attentive. I cannot say enough good things about her. Meeting her was absolutely life-changing and restored my faith in not only humanity but in physicians as a whole. I have never received this level of care anywhere. The amount of time and energy spent during my consultation was shocking. I was so used to being rushed out of doctor’s offices. Not with Dr. Kumar. She immediately put me at ease, answered ALL my questions (and continues to do so) and I felt like I was confiding in family. We even had a few laughs. I could tell she truly cares and her passion was palpable. Her office was immaculate, intimate, efficient, conveniently located and she has a wonderful assistant. She is the gold standard of excellence. My insurance did not cover any of the visits or treatment but she’s worth every penny. I highly recommend her and I’m so grateful to be under her care. I never usually write reviews but my experience with Dr Kumar at Women’s Urology New York was so exceptional & for such an embarrassing issue that I wanted to share with other women in similar situations. I have lived & suffered with urinary incontinence for years following the vaginal births of my 3 children. Whenever I’d sneeze, do sit ups or even run I’d fear leaking - it is a humiliating yet rarely discussed and widely experienced issue. Dr Kumar is a wonderful doctor. She explained my condition and answered all my questions. I had a procedure done with her and she made sure to make me feel comfortable and calm.
