78 years old mother
My mother's second knee replacement with dr. Urquhart was 3 weeks ago, she is doing very good. I was very concerned about her having this surgery (age and health conditions), but both times everything went great. Amazing surgeon!

So disappointing
I’ve had 3 knee replacements on the same knee. My last surgery has caused me more pain, swelling and hot to the touch. I had an MRI and it indicated I have a fractured femur. My primary physician suggested I go to another doctor for a second exam. I saw Dr Urquhart and he didn’t exam me, wouldn’t address the femoral fracture then told me to ride a bike 30 minutes a day (I am not close to being heavy..5’4”, 115 lb.). I told him I’m unable to ride a bike and he ignored me. My husband and I both tried to engage him by asking questions that he chose to ignore. As he rushed to get out of the door I asked him what I can do and he said again “ride a bike 30 minutes a day”. What a waste of my time!

Dr. Urquhart and supporting cast were outstanding
Everything in terms of planning, coaching, scheduling, recovery and surgery went exactly as planned. The staff were incredible at planning and following up. Now that I am at 5 weeks post-surgery, I have no hip pain and I can just about walk totally unassisted. As Dr. Urquhart said before surgery regarding my concerns over recovery, "you'll be able to putt in 5 weeks and drive in a couple of months post surgery". He was generally correct. I believe he did a wonderful job. I requested one night stay at the hospital after surgery. I'd recommend one to two nights to anyone rather than discharge on the day of surgery. I can only assume that it's the insurance companies pushing for day-of-surgery discharge which is wrong in my opinion. The nursing care and support was phenomenal. The two-week guidelines offered by the surgeon's office for recovery are critically important to follow. Any questions during this time is a phone call or email away, and responses are almost immediate.

Excellent Surgeon and Supporting Organization – Dec 05, 2022

My first visit, with Dr. Urquhart, after having two visits with his PA team member, was the most unpleasant doctor appointment I ever had. It seemed like he didn’t review my file. I could tell by the basic questions he asked me to answer. He did have a resident PA interview me before he came in. I felt like he had left that job up to his PA without good communication. I have moderate knee arthritis in both knees with 24/7 pain and swelling. I am not overweight, but have lost a few pounds due to this diagnosis. I completed 7 weeks of physical therapy along with many, many other instructions given to improve knee arthritis . I am used to being active. I have not seen improvement. My pain has been worsening since January, 2022. My quality of life is now poor. I can’t be as physical as I was. I explained this and more to the doctor. I felt that what I discussed was completely ignored. Dr. Urquhart didn’t respect my choices.

Top hip/knee surgeoan
Dr. Urquhart was referred by other U of M specialist because I had some high risks. My hip replacement went extremely well. Both the procedure and recovery time were much quicker than expected and pain was minimal. Dr. Urquhart is an amazing surgeon!

Dr Urquhart at UofM replaced my right hip in 2015 and left hip in 2016. My age was 63 for the first hip. Now at 2021 I can still move both legs through a greater range of motion with no pain. I feel great. I have a good relationship with him and I trust in his skill and thoroughness. He is an excellent surgeon. My wife had a left knee replaced by him in November 2020 and is awaiting a new right knee this late spring/summer of 2021. Don’t stay in pain! You will only regret not having the surgery quicker.

After being referred to him from u of M's ER, this doctor told my wife nothing was wrong. She almost lost her job because of it. Luckily we found a real surgeon that fixed her quickly and easily. she almost lost her leg due to his negligence!

We had the first video contact with Dr. Urquhart on May 28, 2020. We schedule a time for the video at 17.45. We talk about my hip replacement. After review and his prior review of my records, he decided I was a candidate for hip replacement. Due to virus scheduling hip replacement is on hold. I was very impressed with Dr. Urquhart and feel very confident in him doing the surgery.

Dr. Urquhart replaced my left hip using the posterior approach at the University of Michigan Hospital. The pre-op preparation and education was excellent. The operation went well. Remarkably, I had so little post-op pain that I never come close to needing opioids. The post-op care at the hospital was excellent, and the access to a nurse navigator to answer pre- and post-op questions was very helpful. After two and one half weeks, I switched from a walker to a cane. I believe I will no longer need the cane at 4 weeks.

Due to the expertise and excellent care of Dr. Andrew Urquhart and his team, I have had an extremely successful replacement of my right hip’s ball-and-socket joint and a very speedy recovery from surgery. Dr. Urquhart is a considerate and highly skilled surgeon, who was able to refashion my hip joint that had been malformed since birth. In addition to Dr. Urquhart, I would like to thank the members of his whole team for their contributions to my regaining the full use of my right hip: Jean (the nurse who conducted my two-hour class on hip replacement and who monitored my progress), Laura (who answered my questions in the weeks before and after surgery), Heather (my PA), Kerrigan (my scheduler), Leslie (my home physical therapist), and my nurses/CNAs, doctors/residents, and physical therapists/ occupational therapists at the University of Michigan Hospital. It is wonderful to be free of pain and mobile once again!

Feb 5 2019 right hip replacement. I was 52 at surgery. I lost the weight required, did what I was told, piece of cake! No better communicator than Urquhart! This doctor also respects appointment times, as a business owner I appreciate that. Thank you Sir!

Urquhart is an arrogant, rude, condescending jerk who thinks he is above everyone else. He won't do surgery on you if your BMI is above 28 so prefers to do surgery on perfect people like himself.

I would give ZERO if I could. His treatment and behavior were unacceptable, uncaring, cold, indifferent, even MEAN. My husband was there to witness this or I doubt people would believe me. I saw Dr Urquhart after having a knee replacement and then a revision, and I then began having multiple episodes of hemorrhaging in the knee capsule. I went to see him for a second opinion as my doctors could not explain nor stop the very painful internal bleeding episodes. He spent 5 minutes with me, told me I should should get on an exercise bike because I am overweight (I could not walk without a walker nor ride an exercise bike). He then said I should have never had the surgeries as I was too young and that now I should just accept what I have. My husband and I sat there with our mouths dropped open in disbelief as he left the room, then I burst into tears. His assistant seemed embarrassed by his behavior but admitted he "can be like that". I have been to multiple specialist doctors since, and

Dr Urquhart is dismissive and unable to communicate effectively with his patients. After 2 consultations regarding knee replacement, I will find another Doc with better communication skills. He might be a great surgeon but his lack of compassion is intolerable.

Dr. Urquhart replaced my hip 13 years ago and it changed my life. He is a perfectionist and it shows in his work. I was in pain 24/7 with little to no activity, and now I can do anything including water skiing and snow skiing. I’m very blessed to have him as my doctor and will not wait as long if my other hip goes.
