I visited with Dr. Smith once, hoping he could serve as a new PCP for me after my long-term doc retired. You could tell that he had a script, because his suggestions for me were bizarre, including suggesting going on weight-loss injections or having gastric bypass to help me lose 40 pounds, attempting to pressure me into having a sleep study done to explain high blood pressure, and telling me that if my LDL levels didn't drop from 'sub optimal' to 'optimal' that I would likely have a heart attack. He assumed the worst from my family history instead of looking at the 7-plus years of labs and reports that are in my file from his colleagues at the same facility. It was a bizarre, frustrating, and insulting visit - to top if off he coded and billed so many different exams that this 20 minute preventative appointment almost cost me nearly 400 dollars. If you need a doctor to help you lose hundreds of pounds, his aggressiveness may be what you need, but otherwise stay away.

I have been going to Dr. Smith for several years now and I have had outstanding interactions with him. He is my primary care physician and I have referred other friends to him and they have had great experiences as well. I have always been impressed that Dr. Smith remembers me and spends quality time with me. I never feel rushed. I would say he is exceptional and I would highly recommend him!

Empathetic and focused doctor
I was suffering from depression, sleep disorder, and anxiety. Dr Smith was empathetic, listened intently and focused on gathering details. He recommended solutions - over 2 months and couple of visits, I found my path to normalcy. I would highly recommend Dr Smith.

Very disappointed
Not at all happy with Dr. Smith. He doesn't care to listen and understand. He is always in a hurry and always ask to set up a follow up appointment. Do not recommend him at all!

Good quality health care
Dr Smith is very efficient doctor who took my long term care very well. Initially I felt out of comfort zone but when he shared details with me about the treatment plan it really helped me in controlling my vital numbers.

Most unprofessional PCP around
Terrible experience, Dr. Smith is less interested in hearing a patient out and more interested in imposing his views. He consistently asks patients to turn up for the next visit without bothering to hear them out and his manner is very discourteous and rude.

My new Pcp
Had a wonderful experience using Dr Smith after my original PCP retired. His bedside manner was great. Ask questions and had a conversation about my health. Did not feel like I was rushed. Very responsive to my questions and also like that his exams was thorough.

I made an appointment with Dr Andrew Birton Smith to transfer/establish care and have my annual physical exam after my PCP retired. Within the first few minutes, Dr Smith began an interrogation about my previous doctor's treatment, approach, and meds. Like a bully he emphatically informed me that he is NOT OK with most things - including the occasional use of Ambien as a sleep aid, or sex without the use of a condom. Dr Smith doesn't seem available for an open, honest, respectful, two-way conversation with genuine interest or active listening. He also doesn't seem interested in a patient's involvement in decision-making, and in my case I felt that I had been prejudged and disqualified before I entered the exam room. We didn't even get to the actual physical exam. After 30-40 minutes of my values getting picked apart - we ended the visit without any statement about what he'd do differently or how how he'd evolve my health care. Strangest experience I've ever had with a MD!
