As a medical professional myself I understand the majority of what Dr. Rakkar says although the typical patient would have trouble. I get what I need from Dr. Rakkar but I am a complex young patient. Patient to physician interaction is very clinical and is fine with me as a medical professional but Dr. Rakkar has difficulty with communicating back some vital details about patient care and blood work. If you need more clarity and patient to physician facing time I’d select someone else.

Choose another oncologist
I had a couple of appointments with Dr. Rakkar. The first was great. He was courteous and addressed all my questions and concerns. However, my second appointment was not good. He spent all of 5 minutes with me. First he said he didn't have my pathology results, and so ran out to get them. That took a couple minutes. Then he spent the last couple minutes telling me I didn't have cancer but still needed surgery. I had a lot of questions, but couldn't ask them. Instead, he ended my appointment, which made it feel rushed and like he wanted me out of his office. It was only after I requested a copy of the pathology report and read it myself that I discovered that he had lied. Furthermore, he gave me a referral to a surgeon who does not often do the surgery I needed. I highly recommend choosing another oncologist. Due to my experience with Dr. Rakkar, I decided to leave Banner Health.

If you want a fighting chance with cancer please see another oncologist. This Dr. doesn’t care about his patients. He doesn’t explain anything, doesn’t give any information so that a patient can make informed decisions. He expects you to know everything there is to know about your diagnosis. It’s disgusting that he is in a position that deals with people who have a terminal illness.

Dr. Rakkar is a kind, patient, caring professional whom I trusted with my life. I had a very rare kind of leukemia (APL), and he cured me with just the right blend of treatments. I have nothing but the highest praise for this doctor. He is brilliant and will do the deep research necessary to customize a patient’s treatment. He is encouraging and positive always.

I was seeing a different Oncologist that was not to my liking and would not respond to my phone calls. When I ended up in the hospital I met Dr. Rakkar and decided immediately to change Dr.s I have been seeing Dr. Rakkar ever since. I would definitely recommend him.

My appointment was at 1000. I arrived and was taken to an exam room right away. Then I sat and waited an hour and 15 minutes until I had to leave for an 1130 appointment elsewhere. The office manager called later and left me a message that she would call me again. She did not. I returned her call at 1553 but had to leave her a message. She did not respond. The next day she did not respond so I called her again and again had to leave her a message. The 3rd day there was still no response. I did not see nor speak with a doctor but they kept my copay. Reporting this to Medicare et al.

Works too fast to really feel he cares. The office is extremely disorganized, and feels chaotic during every visit. They had no information upon our first visit, even though the appointment was set by the Doctor himself. The staff seems friendly, however I feel there is a lack of leadership, or management of delivering a positive or fluid experience, not only for your patients but also for the team who works here. They are failing miserably at this responsibility.

After my husband's recent blood test, our PCP recommended we see a Hematologist regarding his high white blood cell count. Dr. Rakkar immediately calmed our fears explaining that my husband's high WBC was due to his recent splenectomy. He was extremely pleasant, informative and courteous; we would highly recommend Dr. Rakkar. The office staff at Palo Verde was top-notch.
