Abrupt and unwilling
I saw Dr. Wells very briefly after the resident - he barely laid eyes on me and did not do a full assessment before he ordered testing. At the appointment to discuss results, I had a concerning lab panel - which he was either unwilling or unable to explain. I asked repeatedly for clarification of the result and his assessment of the situation, as he had not fully examined me. It was clear that his expectation was to come in, ramble at me, and leave without answering questions. I switched to a new provider, who took much better care of both my concerns and me, and got the answers I was looking for.

Full disclosure: I saw Dr. Wells nearly a decade ago, so perhaps he's changed. But at the time, I was referred to him to rule out any autoimmune disorders that could be causing my chronic pain and fatigue. He was in the room with me for barely more than a minute. He said that I did not have RA and as such, he would not see me. I explained that I had been referred to discuss a fibro/CFS diagnosis, and he repeated that I did not have RA and therefore I should go back to my primary physician. Then he walked out of the room. At the time I was only in my 20s, which I believe influenced my treatment. Now, in my 30s, my current rheumatologist believes that I may have an autoimmune disorder after all. How many years of suffering could I have avoided if he'd agreed to do rule-out testing etc? If you have an invisible illness, and especially if you are young, I recommend seeking treatment elsewhere.
