Dr. Ali-Reza Sharif-Afshar, MD

About 3 years ago I had laser surgery to break up a 6mm stone and they told my husband that the reason it took so long was there were a lot of stones. My husband told my sister this exactly as it was told to him minutes after he was given the information. They insert a stent that had to remain more that a week and I remember calling the next day saying how badly it hurt and I have a very high threshold for pain. The nurse said it was normal. After the week or so of suffering I had my checkup appointment. They did an ultra sound to see if the stones had passed. The technician called the doctor and I went into the exam room where he told me I needed a second surgery. He INSISTED that he told my husband that he did not get them all and I would have to have another surgery. Which was a lie. After the second surgery I did not have severe pain from the stent so I believe the stent was not in properly the first time which caused the pain. I told my GP to never recommend this doctor again

Few months back I have visited Dr. Afshar because that I might have cancer, Dr. Afshar send me to MRI and confirm that I have a small cancer, so he told me about this procedure, that this was the right thing to do in my case without telling me some of the side effects, it may occur, I said ok. So we went on and got the procedure done and I want to see him one week later. They draw blood and he told me that he will call me in ( 7 days) to let me know if I am cleared from the cancer. At the same time I told him on other serious issues that I am having after the procedure, he said oh I don’t know way but let’s see first if you clear from the cancer. After 7 days I didn’t hear anything from him, I waited 2 weeks it was the longest 2 weeks in my life, then I called his office the nurse took my information and checked the file she said that your results are in and he signed off on it but I don’t know why he did not call, she said that he is in the other office but she will send him a message to call you. No one called so the next day I called again this time another nurse she answered the phone, I told her the same thing that I been waiting for his call in past two weeks and I also called yesterday and I was told that she was going to send him a message to call me and I haven’t heard anything and I am concern this is a very serious. She checked the file and gave me some numbers and said this is the result! I asked her I don’t know what those numbers mean. She turned around and said ( don’t worry you are not going to die) wow really! This is some of my experience with this doctor definitely not going bacK.

My visit with Dr. Sharif-Afshar was extremely rushed to the point I felt zero care, and sympathy from him. He was more concerned with getting me out of his office, than offering me care, and comfort for the two kidney stones that I have. Any questions I had he deflected off, and wanted me to schedule a visit to a dietician instead than put up with me trying to learn more about why I was forming kidney stones. Overall he did very little to ease my burden or to make me feel good about my future outlook concerning getting rid of my stones or the pain I was having in my sides. If you're looking for a Urologist I would highly suggest you look elsewhere, and avoid this Doctor because he simply has too many other patients to give you extra time, and care for what you're suffering from. In the future I will be avoiding this office, and looking elsewhere for a more caring Doctor.
