When I first came to dr. Kelsheimer after surgery I thought he was against me but after talking with him and he explained everything to me then I understood what was going on after that he really proved his self to me and now after almost a year with his help and therapy I am almost a 100% way to go

Awesome Dr & Surgeon
Dr. K and his team are fabulous. I suffered a relatively rare injury and he was amazing to work with the whole time. He is great at his job and made me confident to have him as my surgeon throughout the whole process.

Right as rain.
I had a completly torn rotator cuff and bicep on my left arm after a freak accident. I went to see Dr. Kelsheimer for it and was sceduled for surgery at the end of August 2023. After 6 weeks of inactivity he sent me to Axes physical therapy in Festus, Mo. I had 5.5 months of therapy twice a week and I have at least 90 percent mobility and the tools to continue to increase that at home. Dr. Kelsheimer was very communicative with me about how to heal faster and how I progressed. I am pleased with the outcome and recommend him to any who would need orthopedic surgery.

Dr. Alex Kelsheimer
Dr. Kelsheimer is the perfect balance of compassion and consumate professional. He was attentive to my needs and questions, while carefully determining my direction for care. He is an excellent surgeon and I am recommending him to all of my friends, families, and coworkers. I have all my range returned, and it's good to have a doctor that cares so much for their patients. I can't say enough about Dr. Kelsheimer and Tracy at Orthopedic Specialists. They made a difficult experience manageable.

So thankful for his help
We took our 16 year old daughter in with a badly broken wrist and we were told by urgent care to expect surgery. We had been mentally preparing all weekend to hear she would have to have surgery asap. However, when we arrived Monday he recommended we try a different route to avoid surgery. We were cautiously optimistic but also aware that surgery could still happen if she did not take his advice seriously. Thankfully, she did take it seriously and she is all healed up! We were able to avoid surgery and she is back to normal with no long term side effects. We are so thankful we went to him and that he was able to help her out without surgery.

Amazing Doctor
When I needed Carpal Tunnel surgery I was very fortunate my primary doctor sent me to Orthopedic Specialist to see Dr. Kelsheimer. He made me feel very comfortable, taking the time to explain my injury and what he had to do to correct the Carpal Tunnel, 6 months later he did the same when I tore my Distal Bicep Tendon. He is always friendly and shows true concern.I would highly recommend anyone who need Hand-,Wrist-Elbow-Shoulder and Microsurgery to call Dr. Kelsheimer.

Amazing orthopedic surgeon!
My teenage son broke his arm in February, and Dr Kelsheimer performed the surgery to repair his bones and we visited his office for all follow-up visits. Based on the x-rays, the work was excellent, and the PT we visited afterwards said the incisions were the straightest she'd ever seen! Dr Kelsheimer checked on my son several times in the hospital after the surgery, and was very caring and helpful during all of our follow-up visits. He guided us through making sure we scheduled PT for him, gave us advice on the healing for the scars and he was just generally a really nice guy and fun to work with. If I ever broke a bone, he is the surgeon I would choose to do the surgery. On top of that, everyone in his office is pleasant, kind and efficient. I'm kind of sad that we won't be going back anymore. My son felt really comfortable working with Dr Kelsheimer as well. I highly recommend!

Saved my thumb
I had a horrific cut to my thumb, shattered bone, severed nerves, and main artery was destroyed. Went to ER at St. Lukes on a Sunday afternoon. I was sure I would lose my thumb. ER said I needed surgery, which is why I went to St. Lukes, knowing they have access to the best orthopedic surgeons anywhere. I drove past 4 other hospitals to get there. Dr. Kelsheimer showed up on a Sunday late afternoon and said he would do the surgery, and would do everything he could to save my thumb. With not much to work with, I went under anesthesia and woke up at midnight with a huge bandage on my hand and the tip of my thumb sticking out. Not only did he save the thumb, was able to put pins in the shattered bone and do 2 nerve grafts and 6 months later I have 90% of my range of motion, most of the feeling back, and able to use it almost normally. Gets a little better every day, and I expect to be able to do everything I did before the accident. BIG thanks to Dr K and orthopedic specialists.

I Dont Recommend
I had an infected finger that needed the nail removed and infection cleaned out. I was on 2 rounds of oral antibiotics. Dr. Kelsheimer did the surgery and told my husband it went well. Early the next morning he proceeded to tell me my finger should be amputated to the first knuckle. He said my other option, which he did NOT recommend, was IV antibiotics for 6 weeks. I said I wanted to think about it but he wanted me to have the surgery that day because he had openings? I decided to do the IV antibiotics and save my finger. When he visited me in the hosp. he kept telling me I was making a mistake. He was cocky and rude. He said with my medical condition, I would probably lose all of my fingertips. A terrible thing for a Dr. to tell a patient. When I was discharged he didn't even look at my finger. I went to a Wash U hand surgeon for a second opinion and was told I made the best decision - my finger did NOT need to be amputated. Amputation should be the last option.

Great Experience with Dr K.
Dr K and his office were great to work with. My first visit they got me in quickly as I had asked and surgery scheduled. Some follow up questions I even received a personal phone call from the doctor. Each visit Dr. K listened to my concerns and questions and thoroughly explained the entire process and recovery. I highly recommended Dr. K and his team.

Great caring surgeon
Dr Kelsheimer is a very concerned caring surgeon. He asks questions and then listens to your answer. He did my carpal tunnel surgery and was very concerned about my care and healing. I would recommend him to any of my family or friends. My surgery has an excellent result. I have no pain and use of all my fingers. He helped me immensely.

Broken collar bone
My clavicle had a z-break from tripping on an uneven sidewalk when I was running. My husband took me the the Emergency Room at the St. Luke's Des Peres Hospital where I got immediate attention. Dr Kelsheimer was the attending physician and I was able to get an operation scheduled within two days with him. Dr Kelsheimer inserted a bonecraft and repaired the break with a metal plate and screws. The operation was successful, and it was followed up with 6 weeks of keeping the arm in a sling and 5 weeks of PT. I did not take pain medication for more than 1.5 days after the surgery and after that was pain free. Dr. Kelsheimer followed up frequently throughout the recovery and I now have full functionality of my shoulder. Obviously Dr. Kelsheimer did an excellent job in repairing my clavicle and I appreciated the frequent follow up and how he explained clearly what he was going to do and what was going on during recovery. Thank you Dr. Kelsheimer and the excellent staff at St. Luke's!

Awesome doctor!
Dr. Kelsheimer performed carpal tunnel surgery on my left hand in November and my right hand in December. He is the most caring and compassionate doctor I’ve ever had. He took the time to explain everything from beginning to end. He called me on both occasions to see how I was doing and if I needed anything, he even called me on New Year’s Day, what doctor does that! Dr. Kelsheimer is everything a doctor should be and more! Thank you Dr. Kelsheimer, my surgeries were a 100% success and definite game changer!

Dr. Kelsheimer is one of best doctors I've ever had. He is knowledgeable, personable, and always took time to answer all questions. I was impressed with him ono my initial visit, my elbow/arm surgery and every follow-up visit afterward. He understood the difficulties I was experiencing and made me confident that things would get better. He prescribed the necessary physical therapy to improve my motion and extension of my arm. He even communicated with the physical therapist regarding my progress. He is extremely understanding and I would highly recommend him to anyone.
