Dr. Makkar is a miracle worker
My husband desperately needed to come off of blood thinners due to complications he was having with bleeding. The local cardiologists in Prescott put him on the “critical” list but told us it would be at least 6 months before they could put in a watchman. We didn’t have 6 months. Dr. Makkar saw him, told the scheduler 1st cancellation we were in, and 2 weeks later my husband had the Amulet installed and came off of the blood thinners. We will make the drive down to Phoenix to see Dr. Makkar for any future needs.

He knew what was exactly needed, and did it!
My experience with Dr. Makakar was great. I had a pacemaker lower lead go bad. My cardiologist sent me to Dr. Makkar, he identified the problem immediately and got me into AZ Heart Hospital where he channeled a new path to the heart and installed a new lead to get my pacemaker working perfectly, that was 4 yrs ago and not the first blip. First rate cardiologist.

Poor bedside manner (Dr and all staff)
I don't know how so many people gave him such positive reviews. While he seems very knowledgeable, he seemed like he was 1/2-listening and cut me off when I was mid-sentence several times and was saying bye before I knew it. His office staff was also very cold, not welcoming at all. Reception also helped a woman who came in after me before they even acknowledged me, which was only after I made them aware of this oversight. No apology, no bedside manner from any of the medical team here.

Dr. Makkar is a poor listener. He is very difficult to talk to about problems that may exist after surgery and medicine reactions. I do believe he is good at what he does but has a poor bedside manner that can make a difficult surgery experience even more stressful.

I had PVCs for several years and they continued to worsen, seemingly unaffected by medication. I had to give up many activities and my quality of life the last year suffered greatly. I was referred to Dr. Makkar, and he performed two ablation procedures, the second of which was a long difficult procedure because my problem was in a very difficult part of the heart to reach. He really went the extra mile in my case. It has been a month since the last ablation and I feel great. No PVCs, and I am back to long walks, hiking, and making travel plans. Dr. Makkar was a true blessing.

I was referred to Dr. Makkar by Dr. Vijay at Abrazo Heart Hospital in Phoenix Arizona. My husband and I were immediately impressed with the simple explanations given to us by Dr. Makkar of what was needed to address my AFIB heart issues. Hospital appointments were arranged by Dr. Makkar's staff and went smoothly. Whenever I had questions Nurse Practitioner Gina was always prompt in getting back to me in a timely manner. Dr. Makkar is truly gifted in his specialty and due to his skills and the talented people who assist him during surgery and afterward, my therapy went extremely well and I recovered quickly. I highly recommend Dr. Makkar to anyone needing heart related care and treatment that he specializes in providing. Carol Kish aka Wagner

I honestly cannot say enough about Dr. Makkar. He has saved my life (literally), I feel so blessed to have come across him, he is extremely competent and compassionate. After I came back from my surgery I found out that even under all the stress he was under, he took time to comfort my wife and stayed with her until all of her questions were answered. At all of the follow up visits he takes time to make sure there are no issues and address all of my questions and concerns. I would highly recommend Dr. Makkar to anyone, anytime. Amazing Doctor. I have been on a pacemaker/defibrillator for the last 7 years. A few weeks ago, I received a call from Dr. Makkar’s office. They asked if I was alright as they were alerted that I was having irregular heartbeats. They immediately scheduled me an appointment with Dr. Makkar. At that appointment in front of me, Dr. Makkar called my other cardiologist on the phone to discuss if I needed a heart catheterization. A week later I received 2 stents in my heart, because they discovered I had 90% blockage. The last appointment with Dr Makkar went great, and I can’t thank him enough for his dedication to his patient’s well being. I could not imagine getting any better care with any other doctor! Thank you and your wonderful staff!
