Ignored Family Hist & Early Detection Guidelines
I was VERY disappointed with my visit. My mother, father, and 41-year-old twin sister have a strong history of colonic polyps, and my SOLE intent in scheduling an appointment was to get screened for colon cancer.NP Nassiri claimed I was misinformed, stating only a family history of colon cancer justifies screening. She dismissed the documentation I brought from my sister’s gastroenterologists (Dr. Tellawi and Dr. Lasner) and told me ordering a colonoscopy would be “lying” since I had no symptoms, ignoring early detection guidelines. She also suggested my sister’s procedures were unnecessary and even mentioned another patient receiving similar unnecessary procedures. She was dismissive and belittled me when I challenged her. How can an NP at a GI clinic not know basic screening guidelines? The CDC and US Preventive Services Task Force clearly state that a family history of polyps warrants screening before 45.My advice to patients: Find a different practice.
