Warning: Demand clarity from doctor about billing
If you make an appointment for an annual physical that is covered by insurance, be sure that you DO NOT answer a doctor's questions about other issues. Tell your doctor that you are in for an annual physical and that you will not discuss any issues that they ask about. Imagine my surprise when I (and my insurance) was charged for a Level 3 visit after my annual physical (on top of the charge to my insurance for the annual physical). The office responded with the excuse that I was charged because a referral was made and that a prescription was filled. What? At best, this practice is disingenuous, at worst a scam. I have been a patient at this practice for 13 years. It saddens me that the doctor I now see does not say up front 'if you answer these questions or need a referral or prescription, you will be charged for a separate visit.'
