I went to SV for a detached retina. They used silicone oil. The oil leaked above the lens and I couldn’t see, but Dr. Farber said not to worry. Then the oil emulsified, my eye pressure shot up, and emergency surgery was necessary. The retina was successfully reattached again, but the eye suffered permanent and irreversible damage. The last time I saw Dr. Farber he told me that I should be happy that the surgery was a success, despite the fact that I now have a blown pupil and am legally blind in that eye. That is one strange definition of success.
