Dr. Hewlett performed work on three of my teeth and I have had ongoing pain issues. He did a crown and pre-crown filling in July. I had a lot of pain and sensitivity to sugar, temperature, pressure, etc. I contacted his office about it, but he was in England. The front desk staff told me she would contact the on-call dentist and try to get me seen. That did not happen. I waited until my next appointment, where we were supposed to do the second crown needed. He adjusted the bite on the first crown, but was concerned about the sugar sensitivity saying that shouldn't be happening if it's sealed correctly. He proceeds to do the second crown. They had to inject me an absurd number of times... I think around 8 injections. I tend to need more numbing medication, but this was so excessive. I left that appointment in a ton of pain. I developed a mass on my jawline and the entire side of my face was swollen, tender, and sore. The mass was present for over a month. I contacted his office again a couple of days after this appointment. I had to leave a message because they do not often answer the phone there. I have to call repeatedly throughout the day to get someone to eventually pickup, typically. No one returned my call. I received a missed call back and then a text message the following Monday morning. I proceeded to text as that was the easier form of communication with their inability to answer the phone consistently. I asked that the dentist get me in to address the pain. The scheduler/the dentist would not make any accommodations to see me outside of his listed schedule, which is limited to 3 days/week. Even though I had been in pain, since he first performed the work, and was now having more pain and a solid mass in my jaw. I did not want to see him again following the interactions with his staff, which were obviously representative of him and what he was telling them to say because he was adamantly unconcerned about seeing me for a possible infection and severe pain that had been present for approaching a month. When I finally got in to see him, he became defensive when I stated that something needed to be done about this situation as I have been communicating over a long period of time the issues with pain. He snapped, "That's what I'm trying to do!" I had to lecture him on how highly inappropriate it was for him to be expressing frustration with me when I was the one in pain, pain that's a result of work he performed, and I would appreciate compassion, as I'm sure he would for himself if the positions were reversed. I received no promptness or accommodation from him to be seen regarding the pain issues and the mass in my jawline. To his credit, he adjusted his tone with me for the remainder of the appointment, but the look of contempt in his eyes remained. The appointment concluded with him writing me a referral to a root canal specialist (who happens to share rent with him in the same building space), stating that if the pain didn't improve after he adjusted the bite on the crowns again, then I would likely need root canals on all of the teeth he worked on. He made zero attempts to contact me following this appointment, to see if I was still in pain, to express concern, to just check in. This guy obviously doesn't care and the work he did has now caused a ton of damage. I'm having to appeal with my insurance because he used up all of my dental benefits, plus out-of-pocket expenses (which his office did not offer to reimburse considering the damage inflicted), only to cause pain and require me to see a more expensive dental surgeon to do more extensive, aggressive work on the teeth. I can't be the only client to have an experience like this with this guy. I can't believe how many positive reviews he has. Granted, it has taken me a few months to start publishing these reviews based on my condition. Everyone needs to please write the negative reviews of their experiences. I booked an appointment with this guy because of his nearly 5-star rating. I thought, "Surely, a small-town, private practice dentist with near-exclusive positive reviews HAD TO be a great dentist to establish with. Wrong. In the midst of trying to have him come into the office out of his hours to see me for the urgent matter of pain/infection and his refusal, I did quite a bit of research online. Most dentists responding said that they absolutely will see patients outside of normal office hours when there's a risk of infection and reports of lasting pain, the only times they won't accommodate this is when they've been drinking alcohol, and in that case, they would have an on-call dentist to refer the patient to in an emergency. Dr. Hewlett did not try to do any of this.

Didn't follow insurance protocols and cost us $'s
Dr. Hewlett completed some crown work but because he didn't follow 1 simple protocol that the insurance requires the insurance didn't cover 50% or $500.00. The Dr. didn't apologize nor did any office staff apologize and acted like everything is perfectly normal. No explanation for why the Dr. didn't follow the protocol. We found a new DDS.

This dentist uses current technologies in his practice such as digital imaging and just-in-time techniques for measuring and building crowns all in the same appointment, no need to come back for second appointment for final crown fitting.

I was so impressed with Dr. Hewlett & all his staff today. They have & are taking all possible measures to keep both patients and staff safe and healthy during this Covid-19 time: must wear mask to enter building, 1. station at door set up for - hand sanitizing, responding to list of symptoms, taking temp, taking pulse, and yes, one more time hand sanitizing because you touched the pulse oximeter, 2. redid ventilation throughout, 3. filtering in each room, 4. powerful suction tool, 5. staff went to UW classes to understand the importance & need, 6. all wear masks, face shields, gloves, 7. clean & used cups for pens, 8. sanitizer at counter to pay or schedule appointment, 9. plexiglass both at entrance & scheduler counter, 10. sanitizer at entrance/exit door. I have been at home, leaving only when absolutely necessary, but am very happy to have had my teeth x-rayed, measured, cleaned, & fluoride applied. Thank you for the time & effort to ensure safety of patients & staff!

Dr. Hewlett has always been an amazing dentist, but he has gone above and beyond to make his practice safe (in regards to the Covid virus). My hygienist explained to me all the changes they have made which included extra filtration in the ventilation system, extra training, extra PPE and added suction during procedures to minimize airborne droplets. He has cared for my teeth since I was a child and I now bring my children to him as well, and will continue to until he retires.
