Dr. Taeyoung Kim, DDS

I had some good experiences at this practice, but it ended poorly. I had some questions about why some work had been done in the way it had, and whether a better outcome would have been achieved if it had been taken care of earlier on. I requested a call back. The receptionist as well as Dr. Kim responded with irritation that I wanted a few minutes of her time. When I eventually got a call back which took a while, Dr. Kim sounded annoyed that I had questions and responded defensively, appearing to have the mistaken impression that I was accusing her of doing work that was not warranted, which was not my concern. Though she is thorough and undoubtedly very competent I won’t be sticking with a practice where polite, respectfully framed questions are met with annoyance and a tone that suggested I was out of my lane for trying to understand the work I had done and whether acting sooner might have preserved more of my tooth. I expect respect to go both way with my providers.

Dr Kim is friendly and thorough, but perhaps a bit TOO thorough. Went to her clinic for an exam, and left there extremely worried and stressed because she told me I was about to lose a tooth if I didn't fix the issue immediately. Then, the more I thought about it the more skeptical I became. It just didn't make sense. So I went to my old dentist to get his opinion and, lo and behold, the tooth is absolutely fine and no action is needed. He said he could see what she was seeing, but that it wasn't a big deal. He said it was normal. So the stress was all for nothing. Possibly just a money grab tactic? I don't know. But I can't recommend her after that.

Many doctors are either awesome or not good at all, but this is a tough one. I think Dr. Kim might be a good match for some patients, but not for me. She seems skilled and knowledgeable, but somehow I feel like she must have never dealt with a mouth like mine before. I absolutely stretched my mouth all the way open as requested, but no matter what I did, they just keep pushing me to open it more, more, MORE! I kept trying to tell them it was all the way open, but they pushed so hard I thought I was going to throw up. I haven’t had this problem with any other dentist.
