Be sure they take your actual plan, NOT your insurance company, but the actual plan as most insurance companies have many plans and dentists don’t have to accept all plans. Some plans don’t pay them as well as other plans. They will tell you at checkout that your balance due today is $0 smile. Then you’ll get a bill from them for whatever your plan didn’t cover. Often this is all of the bill because the dentist doesn’t accept your “plan” even though they take other plans from your insurance “company”.When you call to question or dispute the charge, because you were told you owed nothing, you will be reminded “this is just how insurance works” and that the fine “print on your intake and discharge paper work says estimate”. It’s a common techniques used to keep complaints like this one from happening in the office. I’ve worked in medical billing for over 20 years and this is scummy way to run a practice. It’s called “balance billing” and is prohibited in most of healthcare. BEWARE!
