Dr. Maria Szmigiel, DMD

My former husband is a dentist and I managed his practice for several years before we split. I've lived in 4 different states in the past ten years and have had great experiences at various dental offices, with the exception of Dr. Szmigiel's office. I see a dentist every 6 mos and have never been told (or had signs) of periodontal or other dental issues. I felt victimized at Dr. Szmigiel's due to 1. unnecessary treatment (x-rays that were not due) 2. being misdiagnosed (told that a filling needed to be replaced, when prior and recent dentists have told me to hold off) 3. overtreatment (treatment planned for 3 'virgin' teeth that had no decay) 4. upcoding (I had a regular teeth cleaning but was told I needed a scaling appt for moderate to severe gingival inflammation) 4. phantom billing (charged for 'oral hygiene instructions' at my new patient exam appt).Dr. Szmigiel's office does not follow the American Dental Association's guidance on dental exams, treatment planning, or coding.
