Dr. Karen McCarthy, DMD

She is a person with few manners, the worst orthodontist I have ever found in Bergen County. Dr. McCarthy did my daughter's orthodontics without using expanders even though she said that the treatment was more expensive because the expanders were unavoidable, and when she put the braces on, she didn't use the expanders.After the braces were removed my daughter developed open bite. To solve this problem, is necessary two more years of orthodontics and a maxillofacial surgery. When I spoke to Dr. McCarthy about these issues, she just made fun of me and walked away.This doctor makes money without caring about what may happen to the individual's oral and psychological health.

We started out with Dr. McCarthy because her price was the most reasonable. Dr. McCarthy appears pleasant until you ask a question. Not sure why she perceives questions as you are defying her skills, but she does. Her rosy disposition immediately turns into a very sour person. I always thought I was in charge of my children's medical choices, but she does what she wants. Recently, I wanted to learn more about X-rays that were recommended, but I couldn't discuss this in person because Dr. McCarthy keeps parents out of the office since COVID. You are NOT even permitted up with a mask unless you request to come up and are granted permission. Everything appears fine with Dr. McCarthy until you start asking questions. For some reason, she presents passive aggressive or simply hostile. I wanted to understand why the X-rays were recommended and she took the X-rays without my consent (my son is a minor) even though I called the office and requested to speak with her.

I originally had gone to another orthodontist who wanted to charge a tremendous amount of money for my twins braces. I decided to try Dr. McCarthy after getting two recommendations, one of them being my mother in law, who had braces later in life. We have had nothing but a great experience with Dr. McCarthy. I don’t understand some of the low reviews. Don’t hesitate to try her. She’s wonderful.

Myself and two children have been patients of Dr. Karen McCarthy for over seven years now. I do not have any negative thoughts, nor experiences with either her or very kind, sweet staff. I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND HER.

I would highly recommend her to everybody. Walked in with a very uncomfortable situation (broken permanent retainer) and my insurance did not cover the removal. She was very friendly and extremely knowledgable. Afterwards whilst checking out at the desk I was worried that it would cost me some crazy amount, but she told me not to worry about it and that it was free of charge. I was in a situation in which I could've easily been taken advantage of. I can tell that she truly cares.10/10

She is amazing! She very patient and understanding of her special needs patients and always puts them at ease. Her skills are exceptional. My entire family has been a patient of Dr. McCarthy.
