Of course it might be more comfortable if the dentist in question didn't exploit the pain of his patients in order to pad his pockets. If money is so tight you have to charge $50/min, in which no treatment actually occurs, then maybe a slightly less comfortable couch is called for. Don't bother talking to him about it. He clearly has never had anyone disagree with him in judging by his purple complexion when questioned. If this is the way things have "always been done around here" then the citizens of Kingston, Oklahoma have my deepest sympathies and I hope that if you ever are in pain, you have the ability to drive somewhere else.
