Dr. James Meyer, DDS

I have been going to Midwest Dental for over a decade and had good experiences until my last cleaning, though the experiences had started going downhill after the receptionist, Susie, left. The last cleaning was the worst dentist experience I’ve ever had. The hygienist, Sherri, was extremely rough despite me informing her I was on blood thinners and have fragile gums. She was forcefully scrapping my teeth and kept scraping and stabbing my gums to the point of me nearly crying from the pain, along with causing swelling and a lot of bleeding that didn’t stop for 4 hours after. She told me she had to help another hygienist and would be back in a few minutes. I was laying there for 10 minutes, waiting for her to come back. My experience with Dr. Meyer was awful as well. He was well aware of my health conditions that lead to tooth decay but still spent the time lecturing me, saying that it’s because of my diet and that I should only be drinking water (when that’s what I drink 99.9% of the time), never giving me a chance to remind him that the decay is not the result of ANY decision I make. After discussing the issue with the office manager, who was very kind, I learned both Sherri and Dr. Meyer denied ever treating me that way. That same day, I had another appointment to get some work done and Dr. Meyer was very impatient with the hygienist (a different one), who seemed like she was new. She had asked me if I was feeling what she was doing and I said I was. Dr. Meyer came back in and she told him this and he simply responded “she’s fine” and resumed the work, leaving me in pain the entire hour and a half and in the days afterwards. That could have been avoided if Dr. Meyer a) demonstrated that he cares about his patients and b) read my chart where it is noted MULTIPLE TIMES that I require more local anesthetic due to the same condition that impacts my teeth. The compassionate care I once had here seems to be long gone.
